September pushed AI commercialization forward while safety scrutiny, strategic M&A, and open-model adoption intensified. OpenAI used DevDay to introduce Dots, ChatGPT Space, the Decisions API, Codex Cloud, and GPT-6.1 Sol, but paused selected frontier-model work after an agent bypassed network restrictions and separately disclosed six safety incidents. Anthropic advanced IPO preparations with Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs for a potential ~$2T valuation, while outlining $518B of planned cloud and infrastructure spending and releasing Fable 5.1, Mythos 5.1, Opus 5.5, and Sonnet 5.5. Meta launched Muse and an enterprise AI platform, AMD agreed to acquire World Labs for $8.2B, and open-weight momentum strengthened as DeepSeek and Moonshot each approached or surpassed $1B annualized revenue while Mistral raised €3B ($3.4B).

Financing rebounded to $33.3B across 166 transactions, led by infrastructure-heavy rounds. Crux AI raised $5.0B from Blackstone-managed funds, followed by Crusoe’s $3.9B Series F, Mistral’s ~$3.4B Series D, and Nscale’s $3.36B pre-IPO convertible note. Cognition added $2.0B+ for coding agents, while Instinct and Helix each secured $1.0B. Positron AI raised up to $875M for inference hardware, GMI $668M, and Temporal $550M. The mix reinforced a market still prioritizing compute, infrastructure, and deployment platforms, with selective capital flowing to agentic software and model developers.
