April 2025 AI Financing Report

Last month, the top AI news was mostly about infrastructure and export restrictions as the trade war heated (note: Liberation Day was April 2).

AI infra was dominated by Nvidia’s planned $500 B U.S. supercomputing program and the EU’s €200B initiative to fund 13 AI‑chip gigafactories, even as power‑supply constraints pushed Amazon and Microsoft to slow new data‑center projects.

Financing stayed buoyant with about $5.1 B raised across 115 transactions, highlighted by SSI’s $2B round and multiple $75‑450 M Series B–E deals spanning IT, media, security, legal‑tech and marketing sectors.

On the product and safety front, Meta launched the multimodal Llama 4 family, OpenAI released GPT‑4.1, o3 and the cost‑cutting o4‑mini.
